Children are having more free time. is it positive or negative aspect?

Raising children in an appropriate way is the crucial role of parenting. Over the years there have been a significant number of researches on the way of children are educated and raised. Thanks to psychologically proven approaches, these days more and more parents are choosing free range parenting style which means children are more enjoying their self-reliance. Although it has both negative and positive aspects, I feel it is an advantageous trend due to its beneficial effects on individuals. Firstly, being under free range parenting, children can have more independence and autonomy to dictate every aspect of their life without having parents monitoring them. On of this essential aspects is developing critical thinking at an early age. Mostly children in authoritative families are allowed to be a part of discussion on certain topics. Having rights to inquire, build up their own opinion on topical subjects, they can comprehend current problems and analyze. Another positive aspect is to feel responsibility. Although I acknowledge that being unsupervised children are more likely to face difficult situations like getting injuries, damaging own or other’s properties but through their personal experiences they would have come to rely on themselves, and while they know firsthand the cost of their mistakes they would also learn to take responsibility for their actions. Another factor of freedom children enjoy is having more time outdoors on their own. Mostly free range parents allow children to spend time outside as long as they wish. Having more time, children are free to explore their own social circles and pursue opportunities to be around their friends more. As a result, they can gain social and interpersonal skills like communication, respect, politeness and others which might be useful for their future career success. In addition to social skills, time spent outdoors can be emphasized over the screen time and indoor activities which might lead to sedentary lifestyle and lack of physical activities. On the other hand, unsupervised freedom can increase the risk of accidents. While a vast majority of these activities are minor injuries, it also increases more serious problems like kidnapping. As children are more naïve that can believe anyone who treats “kindly”, their safety requires constant vigilance on the part of parents. To conclude, despite some negative aspects, free range parenting style can advance individuals skills and provide children more enjoyable time.
