Book report of Sense and Sensibility
Book report of Sense and Sensibility bgjbW
The book I recently read is Sense and Sensibility written by Jane Austen. This is a fiction book of the romance genre.
This book is quite riveting and heartfelt because of the mysterious beginning of love between the young whose family separated. In addition, the story is about love and the broken at the age of seventeen which makes us interested and expect about their recovery from passionate misery.
A major theme in this book is the danger of extreme emotion. Sense and sensibility tell the story of the Dashwood family, focusing on the life and the love story of the sisters Elinor and Marianne. They become destitute upon the death of their father. They have to leave their house in Norland because of their half-brother, John Dashwood. At that time, Elinor, the one who is all calmness and reason, and can be relied upon for practicality, fell in love with Mr. Edward Ferrars, the brother of her sister-in-law. But they were separated by Edward’s family. Otherwise, Marianne is sensibly full of passionate and romantic feelings. She has no time to attend to Mr. Colonel Brandon, a staid and settled bachelor of thirty-five years old, long past the age of marriage. She has fond of Mr. John Willoughby, a young gentleman.
Throughout this book, the part that I like is the last chapter “Return to Barton”. In this chapter, the problems in the previous chapter are explained and solved. Each explanation given is reasonable and is also contained the personality and emotions of the characters. Moreover, the character’s psychology and action are described more intensely than ever. The point that I appreciate is Edward and Elinor reveal their feelings together which they tried to hide throughout the story. Likewise, Marianne is no longer sensitive and immersed in passion or romance.
On the other hand, I do not dislike specifically any parts of this book but there are a few things that I do not like and it makes me bored with the psyche of Elinor and Marianne which makes the plot develops slightly slow and somewhat dragging.
Overall, I think Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen is a classic book of romance that can be found in many authors. However, the details which make this book becomes more prominent are the opposite personalities and methods with which the Dashwood sister deals with love. After all, this book is suitable for those who looking forward to a gradual romance and not too realistic.
