Ms. James, old grandma, struggling with her financials, was humming under her breath with a big smile. I always went to her house every evening to explore her beautiful garden. She did have a busy son, working far away from here. So, she considered me as her grandchild. Our bond became stronger and stronger as time passed by.
One day, she bought a lottery ticket, hoping she would be the winner. I asked her what she would do if she won. She said, “ I would go and see my son. ” I was astonished by this. She had been living in a broken-down, rat hole The windows were broken and the bulbs were also flickering every day. Judging my expression, she said, “I don’t need any of things to be fixed, I just wanted to meet him before I go. ” Emotional by her words, I determined to fulfill her wish.
But the fortune was not by my side.
My dad couldn’t pay back his debts so he ran away. He grumbled with all his money and even with our home! Poor mother didn’t know this until the creditors threatened us. If we couldn’t pay all the money next week, our house would be theirs. I was so disgusted with my dad’s deeds.
My mom had to go and beg her relatives to borrow her money. My unconscious mind took me to Ms. Sam’s. She was busy checking the list of lottery winners. I told her about my dad but she continued her work.
“Can you help me with this? I can’t see very clearly”
I sighed and checked the list. After 30 seconds, I found that she won the grand prize!
But the devil told me not to tell her, take the lottery and pay the debts.
I was sweating and my hands trembling.
After debating, I reached my hand to take the lottery.
“YOU’D WON THE GRAND PRIZE! ” I shouted, handing the ticket to her.
She silently looked at me and gave the ticket back.
“I’ve known this from the start. I just wanted to test and here it is! You indeed a really good boy so you can have this ticket and pay back your debt! ”
At that moment, I was numb with happiness, hugging her tightly. I quickly told my mom the news!
I swear I was the happiest boy at that time. Honesty indeed can bring happiness.
