Whereas some people believe that youngsters ought to take a gap year before commencing higher education studies, others contend that it is better to enroll at college immediately. Personally, I firmly concur with the former. In this essay, I will elaborate on my reasons. First of all, taking some time off from rigorous learning can help individuals understand what subjects are most suited for them. Numerous adolescents finish school without being sure what they should study and what kind of career path to pursue. If they have to decide right away, they might make mistakes that would haunt them for the rest of their lives. For instance, a person who hastily registered for a bachelor's in economics could one day discover that this subject is too tedious for him and, in fact, what enthralls him is psychology. Consequently, he would need to spend additional time and money to change courses or even accept working in a field that does not interest him. Accordingly, enabling high school graduates some time to explore the world and themselves could assist them in deciding what discipline to concentrate on. Moreover, getting a job prior to college can strengthen youngsters' resumes. In modern times, the job market is highly competitive. Employers are keen on picking candidates that demonstrated relevant skills, so students without any work experience have a substantial disadvantage. Conversely, after a year of working, students could prove that they are able to maintain a full-time job for a long period. Hence, if recruiters need to choose between two people with similar grades but one who completed considerable time in a position, they are more likely to prefer the one with the fuller CV. For example, my cousin David finished his studies with high marks; however, he did not have any work experience. Regrettably, he struggled to find a job because oftentimes, companies favored others with experience even though they had similar or lower scores. In other words, a pause between school and college can be advantageous. In conclusion, in today's fast-paced and competitive world, working for a while previous to beginning college is a splendid idea. That is because the extra time would help individuals pinpoint what domain they ought to study and build their CV.
