A second language is regarded as essential to success in the modern world. It should be compulsory for all children to study a second language as soon as they start school. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

In these days, various controversy has emerged as to whether a second language should be compulsory at a young age, with the aim of succeeding in the world. From my perspective, I completely disagree with this opinion and I assumed that the second language is not a crucial factor to achieve rewarding goals. One primary reason is to put much more pressure on academic for children. In some countries, young students study lots of subjects such as math, science, and social culture and so on. They probably could not spend extra time on learning the second language because these subjects keep them busy with daily assignments. Apparently, if children learn other languages, they have no time to master main subjects and get lower performances on academic. In addition to put pressure on academic, learning a second language for children is actually a threat to the mother tough, as it may be harder for bilingual children to identify themselves with a specific culture and an original custom. To be specific, when children study two languages at the same time, they may get confused with how to express her thoughts and emotions in both languages during the period. In the long term, they possibly could use inappropriate words or sentences in both languages. There is no doubt that learning another language from early school years is beneficial to accept their unfamiliar language. In addition, if they can speak fluently bilingual languages, they can continue their further education in different part of the world or get higher salary. However, profession is indispensable to succeed whatever in education or workplace. In conclusion, although learning duel languages are increasingly common in recent times, I totally disagree that it should be compulsory because proficiency in a field is the key to success.
