SOME PEOPLE FEEL THAT IMAGE IS MORE EFFECTIVE AS COMPARED TO WRITTEN WORD. TO WHAT EXTENT DO YOU AGREE m88
In a technological society, controversy continues to persist on which has superiority, between using media such as photographs and movies for communication, as compared with the conventional written method. In my opinion, while media has its fascinative usefulness, written word continues to be more reliable, hence most preffered.
Admittedly, multimedia such as pictures and videos are more clearly explicit requiring little experience or expertise to decipher its meaning, which explains the reason for its increasing popularity amongst online technological schools, using videos and online presentation to explain complex ideas in simpler form for easier comprehension by prospective viewers.
On the other hand, written word has accuracy in message interpretation. The interpretation of a group of words or sentences is usually universally the same, whereas, the effectiveness of certain type of communication like photos and gifs can have their intended message misconstrued. To illustrate, a nude woman in US might signify women liberation while the same picture in the Middle Eastern region signifies absolute depravity. In cases like, this a written word, that the oppressed women should be given freedom to express herself in whatever way possible, is apparently clearer and more explicit as compared with multimedia. In addition, the perception of written word has quite a number of alternatives: eyes, ears during dictation, and touch via Braille. This flexibility and resilience of written word in books irrespective of the disability of the recipient of the the intended recipients makes it better preferred. Last but not least, a large proportion of developing countries, do not have the “modern” gadget or resources to exchange multimedia, with unstable electricity and poor internet connectivity still plaguing them. In such environment, teachers still have to rely to traditional method.
In conclusion, matter how much we might admire the idea of multimedia as an alternative to communication, the dependence of its efficiency on the senses of the message receiver, possibility of message interpretation and disparity of gadget distribution makes it a less powerful form of message communication
