Westerns, a cinema genre popular from the silent era through the 1960s, embody the hero myth by depicting a lone, seminomadic traveler (the cowboy) navigating a lawless and often hazardous frontier. The goal of the Modernist movement of making the world today seems more understandable “was realized when people all over the world found familiarity in American entertainment, leading to a global culture that has characterized the twentieth and twenty-first centuries” (Crothers 6). The work of artists like George Gershwin, Jackson Pollock, Cole Porter, Marlon Brando, and Bob Fosse has greatly helped people to understand both American culture and the contemporary global society in which they were created. Today, music, art, and movies are a crucial element that adds dimension to any experience and are increasingly used to enhance different cultural values in different kinds of contexts, from art exhibitions to movies. Our views and ideals have been profoundly influenced by the film, which also serves as a reflection of our many cultural backgrounds. One common example is when fans imitate the style of their favorite celebrities. Figurative language that originates in the cinematic world is very widely used today. Movies do more than only reinforce some cultural norms while simultaneously making others obsolete.
