The Affect of Vitamin D and Magnesium in ADHD

The Affect of Vitamin D and Magnesium in ADHD aPNYG
Inattention and hyperactivity are symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), a neurodevelopmental disorder. As a therapy strategy, medical drugs and psychological counseling were used, but their side effects led to the requirement for an efficient replacement. The serum magnesium and vitamin D levels of patients with ADHD are low, according to research. In contrast, quantitative statistical analysis and vitamin D in general had been flawed previously. The purpose of this study is to determine whether vitamin D supplementation and magnesium supplementation promote mental health among ADHD children. Participants in this double-blind, randomized controlled trial were required to have the following characteristics: age (6-12), previous health conditions, including not taking a multivitamin before or during the study, as well as not suffering from any chronic medical or other psychiatric disorders. According to these criteria, 66 participants who were Iranian made up the final sample. All were in the mean age group of 9. 11 ± 1. 61 with 70% boys. After an initial screening and approval by the Isfahan University of Medical Sciences Ethics Committee, participants were randomly divided into two groups: an intervention group and a control group. As directed, the 33 participants in the intervention group took vitamin D every week and magnesium daily with lunch. However, the 33 participants in the control group received paraffin oil and microcrystalline cellulose instead of vitamin D and magnesium. The eight-week protocol used various instruments to assess mental health symptoms of ADHD on pre- and post-treatment days, including an online questionnaire, the SDQ, and the INT, EP, and generate a total difficulty score. In addition, a daily self-report was collected over the 8 weeks of treatment to assess the mental health symptoms of ADHD. The results indicate that 25-OH both vitamin D and magnesium levels increased significantly in the intervention group in comparison to the control group and had no adverse effects. There is a difference in strength difficulties questionnaire scores between the intervention group and the control group. Furthermore, girls' strength difficulties questionnaire component means are low on average compared to boys'. The study is significant in that it contrasts findings from numerous studies and shows that vitamin D and magnesium can improve cognitive function, conduct, and attention, as well as reduce anxiety and aggressive behavior. This study has limitations, nevertheless, such as the small sample size, the short time frame, and the lack of an independent investigation of vitamin D and magnesium. Further research is needed with better sample selection and a longer period. In conclusion, Co-supplementation of vitamin D and magnesium may enhance ADHD children's behavioral and mental health. There is, however, a need for further well-designed studies with larger sample size.
