Some people believe that unpaid community service should be a compulsory part of high school programmes (for example, working for a charity, improving the neighbourhood or teaching sports to younger children). Community services play an important role in shaping the life of young generation. Some people argue that unpaid community service should be made mandatory in high schools. In my opinion, it is good to include such services in the curriculum but students should not be forced to perform these activities. Firstly, community service helps the teenagers to develop an excellent interpersonal skill because It provides teenagers with a chance to socialise with others, encourage them to exchange their thoughts with people of the same interest. It is indirectly helping them to develop the socialising skill which plays an important role in their studies and their future job. As a result, they will be able to learn how to communicate with people around us and respect their opinions. Secondly, in a society where people are concerned only about their own lives, we need people who care for the needy ones and work for their betterment. To increase the number of such people, they should be made to do the social services in their childhood and taught to make it a habit. For instance, great personalities like Mother Teresa had a crave to help poor people since childhood which made her concentrate on charity works in the later stages of life. On the other hand, community services should not be mandatory in the high school programmes because students have a lot of subjects to study within a limited period of time and that would become even harder if these services are made compulsory for them. Besides, if they are to perform such community services, they would definitely face challenges in the academic area and sometimes, they may fail in the examinations. To conclude, community services have a great impact on the young generation as it would help our youths to improve their social skills and care for others which leads to a healthy society.
