Some people believe that there should be fixed punishments for each type of crime, and the motivation for commiting it, should always be taken into account when deciding on the punishment. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion mAgyn
It is widely believed among some people that there should be a fixated punishment for the appropriate crime, while some other think that the motivation for commiting a crime should always be considered factor. In this essay, I will discuss both views before stating my opinion.
First and foremost, a fixed sentence for each crime may prove to be effective for the system while arising controversies to those unjustified. By enforcing a specific punishment, the court may find it much easier to handle such cases, without thinking too much about how long the committed have to serve during their sentence. However, there will always be people who object on the matter stating the criminal deserves worse or better. Such cases can be considered as Jerry Jameson, whose family was unable to fend for themselves, carried out burglary and thief in New York during the Great Depression in 1934.
On the other hand, it is because of cases alike that arouse unsatisfied critics about the weight of criminals punishments. By taking time to account for the motives, such criminals will serve an appropriate sentence. For example, genocide will have to face a much more terrible fate compared to harassment. On the contrary, the court will have to take time to decide. This often result in long periods of trials, leading to many cases to be put on hold.
In my opinion, while both views have it's own flaws and benefits, I think we should enforce laws depending on motives. Only will this sastify everyone but it will also help the police to be more efficient in general.
