REPORT ON A WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAMME
REPORT ON A WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAMME mrp58
Introduction
The aim of this report is to describe the tasks and activities we participated in the work experience programme in, outline the deficiencies we faced and to make recommendations for two improvements that could make the programme in future better.
Tasks and activities
The participants have executed two options of working activities in order to gain more experience. Trainees worked at the reception, which included room arranging and holding phone conversations with the guests about their accommodation, or as cleaners, containing mostly tidying the guests rooms. Each participant was assigned a consultant from original staff, who were meant to firstly prepare the trainee and give them all the necessary information including practical demonstration, and then daily distribute the tasks and check how they were completed.
Problems with the programme
All the participants have been consulted and there occurred a number of complications. The staff 's requirements were often contrasting and too complex for trainees. The participants working both at reception and as cleaners had problem familiarize themselves with the room system, which led to guests often making complains. Other difficulty was a lack of breaks for trainees, which climaxed in them being exhausted and not doing their tasks properly.
Recommendation
As a first measure, I would recommend providing trainees with a quality course, that would be led by a certain group of staff with the result that the participants would all get the same instructions, which would prevent misunderstanding. Another improvement that is needed to be done is observing breaks and sleep schedule of trainees, which will have a direct effect on productivity and enable the participants to work more efficiently.
