Pros and cons of meeting people online
Pros and cons of meeting people online XkY
It is said that man is a social animal who can not survive without social interactions. In modern times, a majority of people socialise through the internet. Meeting people online is a new way to enjoy human contact. However, connecting virtually not only has advantages, but disadvantages as well. I firmly believe that the internet has proven to be a boon in today's time but one must maintain middle ground when it comes to online communication.
Let’s start with the advantages of meeting people online. Talking to people virtually can help you learn about that person’s background and values. If you are someone who enjoys learning about different cultures, then chatting on the internet can expose you to people from different corners of the world. I personally believe that online dating is also safer and more convenient than the physical. One can get to know the other person deeply and then maybe decide to catch up in-person. I can vouch for online dating as I met my partner online through a dating app. We chatted through texts and then mutually agreed to meet after 4 months. Thus, meeting people online has its own charms and benefits.
On the flip side, connecting online has a plethora of disadvantages. Studies have reported that online meetings have increased digital addiction. People who go down this rabbit hole become dependent on digital devices which is not only bad for their mental health, but physical wellbeing as well. Not only addiction, but it can also turn one into a victim of online phishing, cyberbullying, financial theft and identity fraud. Therefore, I feel one must be on their toes when dealing with people online.
In conclusion, I would like to opine that meeting people online has been a boon in modern times but one must be careful while treading the path. We should use the internet to our advantage but we must also be aware of the harmful side of it. After all, all that glitters is not gold.
