Owing to the population growth and increase in land and house prices, especially in large metropolitan areas, in all countries the world over, a large number of people are opting—willingly or unwillingly—to live in big apartment buildings. Even though there are certain disadvantages of this arrangement of accomodation like compromised privacy and heightened difficulty in cases of fire breakouts, in my opinion, the advantages like cheaper overall cost and better security outweigh the drawbacks. Admittedly, living in large high-rise apartments has it negative aspects. One such downside is that the is the privacy of the occupants of the buildings will be less confidential. This is due to the fact the there are usually several households living under one single roof. For example, an arugment between a husband and a wife can be clearly overheard by their neighbors, which will lead to their private lives being exposed to the outside world. Another possible drawback is extra difficulty that arises in cases of fire. This is particulary true in countries with very tall builidings but with no proper equipments to fight fire. Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, for instance, is very prone to this particular disadvantage as the city’s fire fighting department has not been able to keep up with the recent mushrooming of high rise buildings. Depsite the aforementioned downsides, I belive that positive aspects of living in this setting clearly tip the balance in its favor. To begin with, the overall cost of an living in an apartment is reatively lower. As there is no need to pay for the the land, one can save a significant amount of money. On top of this, the apartments are usually smaller, hence cheaper too. Better security is another upside of this kind of accommodation. Since the modern apartment blocks have advanced security system like CCTV and alarms, they they are much safer to live in. Larger numer of people also contributes to this security factor as thieves are less likely to break in into crowded areas. In conclusion, while accommodation in larg
