not necessary to be in a class

All around the world, universities are trying to provide students with a high-quality education. There are a lot of discussions about how to ease education and make it more pleasant for students, especially at universities. One of the controversial debates among specialists is whether universities should let students not attend classes as long as they can pass their examinations. From my point of view, allowing them to decide freely is a better option. I will elaborate on this more in what follows. First and foremost, students who study at university are mature enough to decide and also are responsible for their decisions. By this permission, they can improve their soft skills in planning and decision-making to achieve personal goals. They have limited time as a resource and they must schedule their tasks carefully in order to obtain the best possible result, which is a high grade in case of passing a course. Some of them choose to attend a lecture and others do not. Students who do not choose to be present in classes because they are busy with other tasks, like working or spending a lot of time studying a specific subject, must find a way to study the course in order to be successful at examinations. For instance, one of my friends worked while he was studying at university. He had to work to earn money for his family. Besides, he thought that working prepares him to find a high-paying job in the future. As a result, he could not attend one of his classes. However, with great time management and asking the professor to help him, he managed to study the textbook independently and finally he passed all of the tests successfully. In this way, he learned to work under pressure, which is helpful in the future. Secondly, students have different backgrounds and personalities and forcing them to attend a class, which might not be suitable for them and they cannot learn anything there, is not a wise choice. Professors hold classes differently; for example, some of them give lectures orally by themselves, and others ask students to participate in debates a lot. Hence, students might find a class useless and a waste of time because they do not prefer the way in which course materials are presented. As a personal experience, I had a class about machine learning, but after days of attending the class, I found it difficult to keep track of the course. Our professor asked a lot for participation, so I just got confused with a lot of points of view presented in the class. As a result, I began to study by myself using an education website and I learned the course completely. If I had not studied independently, I would not have passed the test with a high grade. In conclusion, I think letting student to follow their personal learning path provides a more fulfilling education experience for them. In this regard, asking students to be present in every class is not necessary if they can pass class examinations successfully.
