In 2009, the percentage of trips in the US for commuting was highest, at 49% while the figure for visit friends or relatives was significantly lower, at only 6%. Travelling for shopping reasons and personal reasons made up 16% and 19% in the US, compared 10% of social or recreation reasons of trips.
