In general, the two underground tunnel systems have significant differences in regard with size, location, depth and height and cost as well.
The first tunnel took twelve years to build from 1986 to 1998. It was built underneath a body of water and sand. The length was 2. 2 kilometers long and only four vehicles could travelled on the lane. Additionally, it was around 1. 5 meters high and it cost $555 millon.
The second tunnel took only four years to complete. However, the cost was almost double in comparison with the first tunnel. Moreover, it was buit under the road infrastructure, beneath the layer of stone and clay. The length was also longer than the first, with 3. 6 km as well as its height was 2. 5 meters. Six vehicles can travel parallely on the lane.
