Ineffective feedback and effective feedback
Ineffective feedback and effective feedback YlWLN
Firstly, I would like to share about ineffective feedback. I will share about the effective feedback in the next paragraph. It was at that time when I have to lead the performance festival at school. Everything was going really well at the start. But one of the performers didn’t get on time because of the traffic. So, we have to replace with the sub. But he didn’t practice well upfront so he started to panic and fainted on the stage. So, we had to get him to the hospital. The ceremony was a complete failure. I got a lot of bad feedbacks on that. Some told me that it was my fault for not having any backup plans. Some of the teachers said I brought shame because I failed to impress the honor guests. I think that would be the worst ineffective feedbacks that I have got in my life. They didn’t give me any advice or tips to improve but they just blame me for what I have done.
I cried that whole day. The headmaster called me at that night asked me that why am I crying on that small mistake when I had successfully managed to handle 20 school’s ceremony in the past. She told me that “Even if we are doing our best, we could face problems. The only thing we could do is to learn from them. Bad feedback can sometime become a good motive for us to improve”. That was the best effective feedback that I had in my life because she motivated me. She advised me how to improve myself instead of judging me.
By looking at my examples, we could know that we shouldn’t be judgmental in giving feedback. Instead of criticizing, we should motivate them. If I were a manager, I wouldn’t blame the employees for their mistakes. I would help them to overcome those by sharing my experiences, pointing out their mistakes, telling them that we could face those sometime and guiding them how to do better in the future.
