In the late winter of 1801, a man named Lockwood rents a mansion called Thrushcross Grange in England. pE8nL
In the late winter of 1801, a man named Lockwood rents a mansion called Thrushcross Grange in England. Here, four miles from the Grange, he meets the dour landlord Heathcliff, a wealthy man who lives in the old mansion of Wuthering Heights. Lockwood asks his butler, Nelly Dean, to tell him the story of Heathcliff and the strange inhabitants of Wuthering Heights. Nelly agrees, and Lockwood writes her memories of her story in her diary; Nelly remembers her childhood. As a young girl, she worked as a maid in Wuthering Heights for the owner of the mansion, Mr. Earnshaw, and his family. One day Mr Earnshaw went to Liverpool and returned home with an orphaned child that he was going to raise with his own children. At first, the Earnshaw children—a boy named Hindley and his younger sister Catherine—had hated the dark-skinned Heathcliff. However, Catherine quickly fell in love with him, and the two soon became inseparable, and they spent their days playing on the steppes. Hindley continued to mistreat Heathcliff, so Mr Earnshaw sent Hindley to college. Three years later, Mr. Earnshaw died and Hindley became the owner of Wuthering Heights. And he returned with his wife, Frances, and immediately began to take revenge on Heathcliff. He didn't like him at all. Heathcliff now saw himself as an ordinary laborer forced to work in the fields. However, Heathcliff continued to maintain a close relationship with Catherine, who loved her very much. One night, the coward who lived there went to Thrushcross Grange, hoping to piss off the boys Edgar and Isabella Linton. Catherine was bitten by a dog and had to stay at the Grange to recuperate for five weeks, while she remained there, while Miss Linton worked to make her a decent young lady. By the time Catherine returned, she had fallen in love with Edgar and her relationship with Heathcliff was complicated.
