I am now a senior IP officer, and my responsibilities are to investigate company’s products by using IP rights. In general, I have to determine if a new innovation qualifies for patent protection. Additionally, I am in charge of drafting a patent application and filing to the IP office in Thailand.
For my current position that I have started in 2022, I also have to cope with PCT applications which is quite a new area and challenging task for me because there are some differences in writing styles and procedures. Therefore, I wish I could gain more knowledge and experience in drafting to deliver a high quality of my workpieces.
Basically, when I have a new idea or invention, I have to draft claims based on the search report. Sometimes there are difficulties due to the novelty and an inventive step that need to be concerned, and this is more challenging than ever as I have to draft claims in English which is not my first language. Some phrases or words might lead to different meanings, or even some writing styles might be suitable for a specific invention. Therefore, the knowledge and experience obtaining from this course will bring me a clearer idea of how to manipulate with drafting cases. What is more, I believe I would analyze and interpret other patent applications better so that I could avoid infringement cases.
Furthermore, at the present, some previous patent applications are required to make an amendment according to the international search report, and I am responsible for this matter. Hence, I will adapt drafting techniques to my work and create a flawless patent to effectively protect company’s inventions.
Last but not least, I will share my knowledge receiving from this course to relevant members. As a result, our IP team will become stronger in terms of patent quality.
