Famous leaders in our society.
Famous leaders in our society. AaWOM
Many world-famous leaders have made important contributions to the people of their countries. People will always remember and respect them. Another world leader I think is influential is Nelson Mandela. The reasons why I chose him, will be explored in the following essay.
Firstly, Nelson Mandela was the first black president in South Africa. That was a great achievement because there was no way that they would have elected a black to be their president. He came out of jail and fought his way to become president. He also won the hearts of the South Africans that have condemned black people for hundreds of years, by doing this he paved the way for future black presidents for South Africa.
In addition, Nelson Mandela's government focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid by tackling institutionalized racism and fostering racial reconciliation. It allowed black people to get equal rights as white people. He fought for liberty and justice for his people and risked his life for the equality of all. A quote from Mandela from 1991, "I cherish my freedom dearly, but I care even more for your freedom. " He cared so much for the people of South Africa that he could risk his life to protect other people's own. He was a social rights activist, politician, and philanthropist.
Lastly, Nelson Mandela was one of the first African to win the Nobel peace prize. He won it because of his work for the peaceful termination of the apartheid regime, and for laying the foundations for a new democratic South Africa and he earned this award in 1993. He also won the Times magazine person of the year. Even after he died, people still know him as the Father of South Africa. There are over hundreds of streets still named after his death.
As a leader, South African President Nelson Mandela demonstrated remarkable leadership qualities. Including advocacy for peace, his strong presence that disarmed enemies with his smile, high level of forgiveness, positive thinking, ability to see the big picture, focus on goals and missions beyond himself, he is missed but never forgotten.
