Economic progress is one way to measure a country's success. What other factors do you think should be concerned when measure the success of a country? In these factors, which one is the most important?

A strong economy is one measure of a country's success, but I believe good governance and the intellectual and physical power of its young population are equally important. In my opinion, good governance has the utmost importance of all. First and foremost, the ability to think and innovate of young people plays a vital role in building a knowledge-based economy, which determines the sustainable development of a country. This explains why highly developed countries created policies to attract young talents from overseas to come and work in their countries. Second, a young population in a physically good shape also heralds a bright future of a country. Take Japan, they were once “small and short” as regards physical measurements; however, this sad truth was turned into an aspiration to change and a nation-wide campaign to encourage children to drink milk. The strategy paid off as today hardly can any other country “look down” on Japanese people physically. Finally, good governance is a key criterion to inform the success of a country. Good governance means a transparent and corruption-free governmental system which makes and executes policies for the sake of its people. In Vietnam, the rampant corruption in almost every governmental agency betrays people's and investors' trust, weakens the economy and slows down its progress. In conclusion, I believe it is the trust-based governance that determines a country's future because whether its young population is healthy and intellectually competitive or not totally depends on the right strategy made by the central government.
