Report on the work programme improvements
Report on the work programme improvements 6905K
Introduction
The aim of this report is to outline my experience of taking part in the work experience programme in the Intercontinental Hotel. With the purpose of doing so, I will describe the task and activities I have been involved in, following to indicate the problems I have dealt with and make recommendations for two improvements.
Tasks and activities
All of the trainees had the chance to choose a number of posts during the training based on personal preferences and abilities. In the first two weeks I have worked at the reception, checking the guests in and out and learning independently how to use the booking software. During the third week the focus has been on helping the chefs from the restaurant as a kitchen hand and the last week was centered on entertaining the children.
Issues
The major problems I have experienced together with my fellow trainees is, on the one hand, represented by means of heavy workload that resulted in a stressful work environment. This issue is also caused by the lack of staff, physical exhaustion being ineluctable. On the other hand, the quality of the services provided by the trainees is mediocre as a consequence of inadequately training and absence of a bigger number of mentors.
Recommendations
In order to improve the future programmes, I would recommend hiring additional employees and trainers and introducing more weeks in the training. These two changes will increase the quality of the programmes by stabilizing the workload and reducing the level of stress caused by the lack of experience.
