Today, everyone have easy access to internet and technological gadgets. For that reason, many compnies are permiting their empoyees to work from the place of their convienence. Though, this set-up has its own benefits and downfalls that I will describe in further paragraphs of this essay.
First of all, employees can utilize their resources in better manner. Explaining further, the time and that was priorly getting wasted on transportation to office, can be utilized to complete the additional work, which inturn benefit both compney and worker. A good example for it being Google, as its Bengluru branch has opted for work from home policy, due to that, the effesciency of work inclined significantly in short span of time. In addition to that, it provides delightful work environment for the workers. The employees are working from the place of their choice, which reduces the work place discomfort. Few days back, study conducted by the psychology department of oxford university has found decline in incedences of depression among people working form home.
However, it has its own disadvantage, one being the increased chance of errors and flaws in work. As all communication devices has its own limitation and that causes incidence of miscommunication among the staff. Such unclear conversation might cause monetory harm to the employer. For example, in march 2023, due to the poor internet connection, an employee at wall street misinterpreted a trade, that caused the loss of 10 million dollar to the firm. another con is that, it lacks the proper observation over the staff. It becomes difficult for manager to manage as they are not present in office. Therefor, management has to contact them individualy. For example, In the office to take the follow up, the boss has to go out in chamber of employee and there he can observe his work, but it is not possible in work form home setup.
In conclusion, eventhough the adaptation towards idea of working from home can be beneficial for employees in both terms of resources and psychologically, it can certainly cauce devastating effect over co-ordination and quality of work.
