Benefits and disadvantages of rules-based and non-traditional school systems

Nowadays, there are different pedagogical approaches, it is not always easy to identify the best or the most suitable for children. This difference between institutions and approaches is due to the fact that each child has a personality and a different way of learning, which is why schools adopt a teaching methodology that best adapts to the public in question. For both systems, based on rules and non-traditional, there are advantages and disadvantages. The rule-based approach is also known as the traditional method. One of the benefits of this methodology is the great sense of organization that intuitions represent, with adequate rooms and buildings, planning activities, each school department has an active role in the management of schools in an organized manner. In a traditional school, classes start and end at fixed times, which contributes to punctuality. Finally, the typical educational system motivates and provides competitiveness among students, which can improve children's performance and teach them to be more resilient in their attitudes. On the other hand, there are also disadvantages related to the traditional system. Firstly, the educational system is widespread, consequently, all students learn the same subjects, which can be completely unnecessary for someone, but which can be useful for other students. The evaluation system is not the best because it tests the power of memorization instead of skills and knowledge. The authority of the teacher can widen the gap between them and the students because the teacher makes all the decisions in relation to the students. The benefits of the non-traditional system are respect for the individualities of all students so that they cannot be taught in the same way; students play an active role in the learning process once they participate in activities and reflect on their learning; teachers need to stimulate children's curiosity by changing the typical educational environment of teaching, the classroom, to the library, the schoolyard or even the supermarket. Despite the above advantages, the main disadvantage is that children may find it more difficult to enter college, as they often do not have certain skills and qualifications that would be required to enter these higher education institutions. Once the pressure is removed from the children, another obvious disadvantage is the lack of competition, which can lead to a flawed view of reality. Lastly, children may not learn enough difficult skills, such as math. There are both benefits and disadvantages of the traditional and non-traditional educational system. But I believe due to the current system of entry into university education systems, the traditional system is still the most suitable, however, parents can seek extracurricular activities that stimulate creativity and critical thinking in their children.
