Nowadays, technological advancements are at the peak. Some people believe that, computers are capable of interpreting various languages with complete perfection. Therefore, the upcoming generation does not need to learn multiple languages. I disagree with this statement because, Over-dependence on computers may cause negative impact on cognitive skills and at the same time the future generation may lack cultural knowledge. This essay will discuss these reasons in detail. To begin with, firstly, declined cognitive skills such as, language learning ability in children is the major effect of excessive dependence on modern technologies, mainly computers. To be more specific, more and more children become familiar with these advanced technologies and they lack abilities in learning different languages. As a result, most of the children become monolingual. For instance, a study conducted by a reporter channel in kochi in 2020 reveals that, 85percent of the children, who are expert in using computers are monolingual. In addition, future generation may lack cultural knowledge, because each and every language is important. To be more specific, each language is enriched with the facts and history of a nation. So it is essential to learn various languages in order to familiarize with the cultural aspects of a Nation. Besides, if a person is monolingual they may not be aware about other cultural aspects. As a result, many children in future may lacking cultural knowledge regarding neighborhood countries. For example, a research conducted by a community center in pune in 2020 published that, 80 per cent of the children in 21st century are unaware about the culture of their neighbouring country. To sum up, over-dependence on modern technologies such as computers may leads to declined cognitive abilities as well as lacking cultural knowledge in upcoming generation. Hence, I disagree with the statement that, children will not need to learn multiple languages.
