Some people think that knowledge of history is useless, but others think that knowing history is important. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Some people think that knowledge of history is useless, but others think that knowing history is important. 3XX
Involving the study of humans and their actions, history helps us understand how past events impacted our world. History is believed, by some individuals, to be vital knowledge, as it provides valuable attainment that can give solutions to the problems of the present. However, this viewpoint is confronted by those, who think of history as useless lore, since we live in a completely different era. I agree with the former opinion. There are some reasons why knowledge of history is important. Firstly, if we are well aware of history, it can provide measures for present problems. Coronavirus pandemic, that broke out nearly a year ago, is a perfect example of an event when the knowledge of history has helped significantly. Having experienced many epidemics such as Asian flu, Naples Plague, Mexico's smallpox, or, worst of all, Black Death, which had taken the lives of more than 200 million people, we now know how to act when pandemics break out and what measures to take. If we were lacking the knowledge of epidemics throughout the history, we would not have been able to take appropriate actions (such as closing the borders, wearing face masks, using antiseptic tools to minimize the risk of infestation) to handle the waves. Moreover, study of the past develops critical thinking. Having the deep knowledge of the past events, we start to ask questions, speak out multiple perspectives to develop a more informed view of the world around us. Additionally, we get inspiration from great men of the past like Bill Gates or Valentina Tereshkova. Those opposed to the study of history think that events of the yesterdays have nothing to do with present day doings, that we live in a totally different era with different vision of the world and appliance of that knowledge to the present is pointless. They, for instance, say that we do not need to study the reasons of the World War 2, because such an event will never arise again. In conclusion, taking into consideration the advantages of learning history outlined above, studying history is vital, because as well as giving us knowledge that can help handle difficulties of today, it intensifies our critical thinking skills.
