Crime and punishement, some think it is not correct

Crime and punishement, some think it is not correct rdl
Crime and punishment is a debate that is as old as humanity itself. And while some say that more time in prison is the ultimate way to face the issue, it is the opinion of others that there is always another way to inhibit criminal acts. In this essay, I ill discuss both opinions and explainwhy Ibelieve that there is other ways to discourage crime. An eye for an eye, or perhaps two eyes for an eay might be the explaination that sever punishment would inhibit those who are thinking of comitting a crime. But will 10 years instead of 5 behind bars really stop those who are willing to go against the society anyway? History tells us t hat sever punishment would creat ways to escape it and not the other way around. A famous example is alcohol prohibition in the USA. The government tried to ban manufacturing, selling and drinking alchol, and sever penalties were put for those who don't align with the new rules. The result: crime rates rose significa ntly. In short, harsh penalties did exactly the opposite of what they were supposed to do. That's why Idisagree with the principle. Onthe other hand, Alternative ways exist and are provento work well. Criminals usually come from poor, underserved societes. Programs generally enhance those communities would greatly reduce all sorts of law breaking. For exmple, and again in the USA, some areas of Brooklyn, New York, were so dangerous that one couldn't even take a walk in t he middle of the day. A dacade later, after a few companies invested a good amount of money there and more schools were built, and the result is a new safe Brooklyn. All due to dealing withthe source of the problem. In conclusion, one could argue that throwing criminals in a cell for longer periods would largely reduce crime rates. On the other side, it's the idea of others that the problem could be dealt with differently. I am a strong believer of more humane alternatives such as investing in people and improving their lives.
