Once upon a time, Black clouds gathered above us, but we were too intent on playing football. We hoped that the clouds would go away so that we could continue playing. Our hopes were dashed when suddenly heavy rain began to pour. In a few seconds we were all soaked to the skin. To make matters worse, lightning flashed dangerously close to us. The deafening thunder and howling wind did not help either. Then…. As we saw that unpreparedness for the storm can put us in very vulnerable situation. So, we should be prepared for the same when any type of forecast is there for storms. Our readiness to face natural calamities like storms can save our precious lives and prevent us from large amount of destruction. Here, the most important thing is the prearrangements we should make to confront storms. Thus, we can take following precautions before the upcoming storm: 1. Make a plan of action and ensure all the family members know it. 2. Assemble the emergency kit. 3. Get the rid of dead and rotting trees that could fall and injure someone or cause property damage. 4. Secure outdoor objects and doors. 5. Close the blinds, shades or curtains. 6. Unplug electronic equipment and appliances. First of all, family members should make a full proof plan if the storm would get very ugly and stick to it at any circumferences. In the plan, we can discuss evacuation routes and set up a safety room. In addition to this, we must have emergency kit which includes medications, first aid kit, whistle, flash lights, phone chargers etc. Also, one should have local map to escape from the area if the weather becomes worst. This is how one can make an action plan and assemble emergency kit. Another important thing is to secure outdoor as well as indoor objects. To secure outdoor objects like vehicles firstly we should get rid of rotten and dead trees. Moreover, we can keep our wheels in the garage and make sure that storm won’t affect them. After that, to stay safe inside the house, we should close the blinds, shades and curtains. Furthermore, we should unplug all the electronic equipment and appliances so that there won’t be any chance of short circuit. So, our alertness and consciousness about the natural hazards and preparedness and readiness to tackle them can save so many precious lives.
