As illustrated by the chart, the agriculture sector has contributed the maximum, up to 70%, towards the growth index in 1960, whereas industries and services collectively added approximately 15 % to India's economic growth. Agriculture continued to be the strongest contributor till 1980. Also, there is a gradual increase in the contributions of other sectors. 1990 witnessed a changing tread in the Indian economy. This year, the service sector provided a major boost of 45% as compared to 25% of the previous decade to the economy. In addition to this, industry sector has also been on a gradual growth path but it is not as substantial as the services sector. Furthermore, the year 2000 has seen a considerable 35% rise in the contribution made by service sector towards the the economic growth. In the nutshell, in the period from 1960 till 1980, a subtle decline in agriculture sector and considerable rise in service sector is observed towards the India's economic growth.
